Why ChatGPT Finances Doesn't Work in Brazil (and What to Use)

May 22, 20266 min read

On May 15, 2026, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Finances, a feature that connects ChatGPT directly to your bank, credit and investment accounts. It got a lot of people in Brazil excited, but there is an important catch: it does not work with Brazilian banks. This article explains why, and what to use instead.

The short answer

ChatGPT Finances runs on Plaid, a financial data aggregator that only covers institutions in the United States (and parts of Canada and Europe). Plaid does not participate in Open Finance Brasil, so the feature cannot see Nubank, Itaú, Inter or any Brazilian bank. To connect your AI to your bank in Brazil, the alternative that works today is Manio.

Why Plaid does not cover Brazil

Plaid was built around the US banking model, where data sharing has always relied on private integrations between aggregators and banks. Brazil took a different path: Open Finance, regulated by the Central Bank since 2021, standardizes sharing through official, mandatory APIs. These are two different worlds, and Plaid has neither a regulatory nor a technical presence in Brazilian Open Finance.

As long as ChatGPT Finances depends on Plaid, it will stay limited to the US. There is no timeline for Brazil support.

What to use in Brazil

Manio is an Open Finance intermediary that connects your Brazilian bank to your AI agent. Instead of relying on a native feature that does not reach Brazil, you use the agent you already have, ChatGPT or Claude, and Manio delivers the transactions with read-only access.

  1. Create your Manio account and connect your bank through Open Finance.
  2. In the "AI Agents" section, choose ChatGPT or Claude.
  3. Authorize access and start asking about your finances.

What about security?

Both paths are read-only, so no AI can move your money. The difference is coverage: Plaid does not reach Brazil, Open Finance does. Manio never stores your bank password and is regulated by the Central Bank as an Open Finance participant. Learn more in Open Finance security.

Frequently asked questions

Will ChatGPT Finances come to Brazil?

There is no announcement to that effect. Because the feature is built on Plaid, it would require Plaid to enter Brazilian Open Finance, which is not on the horizon.

Does Manio replace ChatGPT Finances?

For people in Brazil, Manio is the way to get the same result: your AI reading your real bank data, with the added benefit of working with more than one agent, not just ChatGPT.

Does it work with investments?

Manio focuses on checking and credit card transactions, which is where most day-to-day questions live. Open Finance investment coverage continues to evolve.
