How to Connect Claude (and Cursor, Codex) to Your Bank via MCP
ChatGPT is not the only assistant that can read your finances. If you use Claude, Cursor, Codex or any MCP-compatible client, you can connect your Brazilian bank to it with read-only access. This guide explains what MCP is, how the connection works, and the step by step to give your agent access to your statement through Open Finance.
The short answer
Manio exposes a remote MCP server. You paste that server URL into your client (Claude, Cursor, Codex, Claude Code), authorize access, and the agent starts reading your bank transactions, read-only, through Open Finance. No technical setup is needed: the client registers itself.
What MCP is and why it matters
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external data sources securely. Instead of each app needing its own integration, any client that speaks MCP can use the same server. Manio provides that server for your transactions, so a single address serves Claude, Cursor, Codex and any future compatible agent.
How to connect Claude (and Cursor, Codex) to your bank
- Create your Manio account and connect your bank through Open Finance (consent happens directly in your bank app).
- On the destinations page, open the "AI Agents" section and choose Claude or "Other agents".
- Copy the MCP server URL Manio shows you.
- In your client, add a remote MCP connector or server and paste the URL. The client registers automatically (DCR).
- Authorize access on the Manio screen. Done: ask the agent to analyze your spending.

What the agent can do
- List your accounts and balances
- Read your transactions by period, amount or merchant
- Categorize spending and spot recurring subscriptions
- Answer questions like "how much came in and went out this month"
Access is strictly read-only (the transactions:read scope). The agent cannot make a Pix, transfer or any payment, and Manio never receives your bank password.
Is it safe to give Claude access?
Yes. Authorization uses OAuth 2.1, access is read-only, and the data comes from Open Finance, regulated by the Central Bank. You grant access explicitly and can revoke it whenever you want, which deletes the copy of transactions used to serve the agent. Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to code to use MCP?
No. Although MCP is a technical standard, connecting is just pasting a URL. The client handles registration and authorization on its own.
Does it work with the free Claude plan?
Remote MCP connectors usually require a paid Claude plan (Pro or higher). The bank connection, on the Manio side, has a free plan.
Can I connect more than one agent at the same time?
Yes. You can connect Claude and ChatGPT, for example. Each has its own authorization and can be revoked separately.
